Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) Card

In Illinois, citizens must apply for, and receive, a Firearm Owner's Identification Card (FOID Card) in order to lawfully acquire or possess, any firearm, stun gun, or taser.

This applies to the acquisition and possession of ammunition, as well. The statute that provides information relating to the FOID Card application and appeal process can be found underThe Firearm Owners Identification Act, 430 ILCS 65.
